About the Artist:

In 1983, Zbigniew (Ziggy) Knaszak achieved his biggest dream to leave communist Poland and move to America.

After a long journey of moving from state to state to find the perfect place to live, Ziggy eventually made his way to Chicagoland. There he met his wife, had two sons, and worked various jobs until he and his wife started their own cleaning business to support their family.

After many difficult years, the Knaszak family bought a house in Wauconda, IL and Ziggy started to create the home of his dreams. Years after the move he met a friend who introduced him to painting. He helped them set up at art shows and would see what they were making and thought he could try that too. Before this time, Ziggy had no prior experience painting, but always had a curiosity about art and how it was made.

He took a chance and bought a bunch of art supplies. Since he never attended any art schools, he relied solely on his creative instincts, passion, and attention to detail. Ziggy never stopped painting from that moment on.

Ziggy now enjoys painting in his free time, attending art shows, thrift shopping and gardening in the backyard with his pet chickens.
